Audi has presented a new generation of the A6 saloon. Now we can fully appreciate its appearance, which wasn’t possible with the recently disclosed official videoteaser.

Generally the design has become contemporarily more plastic and exquisite. The lighting parades its diode nature – just like all current Audi models.  The front seems not to be Audi-like from the most of the perspectives – it looks more like its rival with white-blue propeller on the hood badge – the short overhang narrowed greatly, the headlights shape and wing plastic coupled together create such a wrong impression.

The interior design mostly repeats its executive sibling the Audi A7 – rather predictable, after all the last one is essentially a hatchback version of the A6.

The new A6 can be interpreted as a product of deep modernization – the body structure seems to stay the same as previous model’s one, though all panels are new. The wheelbase has been extended by 69 mm and now equals to 2912 mm, as for the body itself – it almost hasn’t changed the dimensions: A6 has grown lengthwise (from 1874 mm to 1855 mm), and has become a bit shorter (4915 mm – 4927 mm) and lower (1455 mm – 1459 mm).

Thanks to that – along with 20% of the body panels made of aluminium (front wings, hood, boot lid, doors, and also partitions in the boot) – the car became 80 kg lighter (the new A6 weights 1575 kg).

The engines lineage includes 5 units – diesel 3.0 TDI (245 or 204 hp), diesel 2.0 TDI (177 hp), and three petrol ones: 2.8 FSI (204 hp), 2.0 TFSI (211 hp) and 3.0 TFSI (300 hp). The automaker claims that all lineage is going to be more economical than previous one by 19% on average.

The hybrid version is going to appear a bit later coupled with 2.0 TFSI, 211 hp (combined with electric motor) under its hood. The hybrid’s characteristics are quite impressive: it does a hundred in 7.3 s, and the top speed goes up to 238 km/h with the average consumption of 6.2 l per 100 km. Making a hundred is only possible with electric traction and 3 km fuel distance.

The new A6 is going to go on sale in the beginning of 2011, its hybrid version – closer to the end of the same year. German price of standard package is €38 500.
