At the same time as the premiere of the K2, taking place in Shanghai, New-York City received its sibling, The Kia, Rio Sedan. Both the models were created on the same platform and designed in the Kia manner, but still hardly differ from each other. The Chinese are offered a more traditional, stricter design than the American – which is hipper and bolder. Such are the peculiarities of these markets!
The new Rio, just like the hatchback, was designed at the Kia studio in California. We should admit that the design team, have managed to back away from the image of a ‘budget saloon’ by making a bold move with a short-hood design. Inter alia, there is not much in common with the hatchback – only front doors and mirrors. The front apron totally differs in headlamps, grille and bumper.
Technically the American sibling is different to its elder: its 1.6 l engine is more powerful – 138 hp. The gearbox is either manual or automatic 6-speed, and top end modifications are supplied, both cruise control and rear camera.
