The “Six” was shown on the LA Motor Show but… online only. The production car almost replicates the prototype presented a couple of months ago in Paris, - apart from some details, and the body style (the first one was convertible).
6 Series’s style is a matter of taste. Comparing with the previous range these cars are rather conservative, on the other hand all details and lines are perfect. Only the shape of the front bumper and the headlights design are doubtful.
New BMW’s proportions are much more athletic than the forerunner had: +74 mm length, +39 mm width, - 9 mm height. Because of the dimensions enlargement – the rear seats became roomier, and the boot capacity is 350 l when the roof is up and 300 l as it’s folded.
The folding roof deserves to get a special paragraph. Unusual shape with two “fins” adds elegance to the design, and the rear vertical window can go down separately. The designers themselves without modesty call it “a masterpiece of design reflection”. It folds up in 19 seconds, unfolds – in 24.
The interior has center console turned a bit towards the driver’s seat, as is typical for current BMW style. New lightened seats have embedded seat belt mountings and come in three variants: standard, sports or comfortable.
Two engines for the model are pronounced so far – both turbocharged. The first one (640i), with 3.0 l capacity, rated at 320 hp and 450 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds; top speed estimates are 250 km/h. The second one (650i) is 4.4 l V8 that produces 407 hp and 600 Nm of torque, reaching up to 100 km/h in 5 seconds.
The convertible is going on sale in March 2011.
